An Intro

A little over ten years ago, I lost my job. I was young, debt free and without any social or familial responsibilities whatsoever.

I remember feeling a little confused at first. I remember thinking this would only be a temporary situation. Soon enough, I would be working somewhere else and making money to finance my weekend shenanigans all over again.

But the constant media coverage of the crash at the time made me realize things would not be that easy. People were losing their jobs all over the world. Friends of mine were moving back to their home country. People were flying out of Dubai and leaving their cars and other possessions behind.

That initial feeling of confusion quickly turned into dread. How would i find a job? What would I do?

Fuck it. I would just travel.

In hindsight, I now realize how lucky and blessed I was to have had the luxury to travel in the first place. But this isn’t what we are here to discuss.

Anyway. One day, after having decided that I would be traveling, I was in the car with my dad. I was talking about how I would start my trip in Greece, and how my blog was almost ready. But the thing was, I didn’t know what I would write about. And I couldn’t think of any reason why anyone would give enough of a crap about me or my stories to log on and read my posts. But my dad being who he is, he knew exactly what to say to me.

“You are a storyteller. Go, find your stories, then write about them”.

And so, followthehippo was born.

Here we are, about ten years later. There is another economic crash, and people are losing their jobs. Friends are flying back to their home country. I am not about to pack my bags and go on another sabbatical, but I do feel I need to do something.

For the past ten years I have helped several brands reach new audiences and tell their stories. Now I want to help people do the same thing. So if you have been affected by the current situation in any way (and who hasn’t?), please reach out to me. I would love to hear from you. And I would love the opportunity to share your story with the world.

And who knows? With a little luck, maybe your story will reach the right audience. And when that happens, so does magic.

Follow the hippo.
